No need for books

Regarding the quote "Since everything is on the internet,I don't need books.....right?" I believe that this is becoming part of a lot of people's life but is not necessarily true. Reading books is more comfortable through the actual possession of the book. And if it's required you can cite things   it's better to have the book to skin important information. It is easier because you have instant internet right away and the book you might have to buy it or find it. In many cases it is difficult to find certain book and that's when the internet comes in handy. The internet is very useful to verify facts and information that is already known. But will never be replaced because the internet is not a reliable source and often times is not  useful. Besides there's a large industry in the book production and selling that it will affect it like Ipods and electronic music storages have done to CD which are not of much concern because education is not involved in the selling of CD's.Besides this it's difficult for third and even second world countries to get access to a computer and internet. This makes books a better source of information that can be reused by multiple people over time and does not require to be paying a fee for internet. For instance if there were to be a computer setting in a rural area or third world country, students would have to get some sort of transportation to get to a computer, but books would have made it more easy and less time consuming to find a computer in a case like this.
Health issues will also be involved in the competition of books against internet because books are less harmful to your eyes since they have the natural lighting of the sun and not contrast and brightness settings like computers do.

  1. You make good points about some of the strengths of books over the Internet:
    - People like to feel/hold books
    - Books are easy to use
    - Books can easily be re-used

Additionally you make an excellent point that the Internet is not free and not everyone in the world has access to the Internet.

One other thing to consider is that not all books are available on the Internet. Some books exist only in print, especially if they are older books, and it is unlikely that all of those older books will be digitized.
